WHAT
First off, here's the trailer. Make of it what you will. I for one am excited to see what Joss Whedon has in store for us. I liked Clark Gregg's character, personally, and I think he was integral to the Avengers and did a great job. And of course any How I Met Your Mother fan is excited for Cobie to make an appearance - she'll only be appearing as a minor character in season 1 of SHIELD but could easily be bumped up to the main cast in season 2 next fall, after HIMYM has finished.

ABC has picked up the show, and Disney is of course behind the production. I know the Disney name is almost a deterrent, but remember the Avengers? That was done under Disney as well. Plus Disney has spit out some damn good movies, such as the Pirates Trilogy (what 4th movie?).

So what is it about? We don't really know. You can pick some stuff up from the trailer, but it'll be centered around Phil Coulson, who never really died apparently. Some people are angry about this, but guys, it's a Super-Hero world. There's a god with a huge lightning hammer and a man with claws that shoot out of his knuckles running around. Don't complain. What we do know is that it looks like it will essentially be a procedural cop show, the twist being that the villains being hunted are minor super-villains from the Marvel world. Some of you saw the cement-punching guy in the trailer - no, that is not Luke Cage, as many thought, it's been flatly denied. It's been rumored Andrew Garfield may make a one episode appearance in the show as Spider-Man, and Jeremy Renner apparently let something slip about showing up as well, but outside of that, doesn't look like too many big name heroes will bee showing up. But that's really the beauty of it, isn't it? Ordinary people doing hero's work? Joss Whedon is quoted as saying: "It's new characters. It needs to be its own thing. It needs to be adjacent [to The Avengers]... What does S.H.I.E.L.D. have that the other superheroes don't? And that, to me, is that they're not superheroes, but they live in that universe. Even though they're a big organization, that [lack of powers] makes them underdogs, and that's interesting to me." We'll see how it goes.

WHEN

Airing this Fall season at 8 E/7 P time on ABC, starting in September.
